Grey Lock Statute in Battery Park, Burlington, Vermont.
Grey Lock, who was named for his premature streak of gray hair, was an Abenaki Chief famous for his lightning raids on English settlements south of the green Mountains in the 18th century. English enemies were never able to defeat him, and their heirs honored his courage and daring by naming a mountain in Massachusett's Berkshire Hills after him. (pictured at left)
